Establishment

The institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST) was established by the Announcement of the National Executive Council no.42 dated 16th January 2515 B.E. (1972) with financial and technical support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) [http://www.undp.org]. By virtue of the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology Act 2541 B.E. (1998), amended in 2548 B.E. (2005) (second issue), IPST is now an agency under the direction of the Ministry of Education.

Aims

1. To initiate, promote, coordinate and conduct studies and research on curriculum development, teaching-learning methodology and evaluation of science, mathematics and technology teaching and learning at all levels focusing on basic education;

2. To promote, coordinate and conduct personnel development by training  teachers and students in teaching, learning and researching in the field of science, mathematics and technology;

3. To promote, coordinate and undertake studies and research to improve and produce lessons, exercises, academic documents and all kinds of materials and equipments for teaching and learning of science, mathematics and technology;

4. To promote benchmarking and quality assurance system development for formal science, mathematics and technology education;

5. To develop and nurture talents in science and technology among teachers and students alike;

6. To advise ministries, departments, divisions, government or private agencies responsible for education or educational institute management exclusively in accordance with authorities as per items 1 to 5 above.
